For Avid Trekkers: Ready for Adventure

Embarking on a trekking expedition is an exhilarating experience, but preparation is key to ensure you make the most of your journey. As you navigate the mountain trails of Bhutan, here are some essential guidelines to enhance your trekking preparedness.

Physical Fitness

Expect five to six hours of daily hiking, tackling steep ascents and descents at elevations exceeding 10,000 feet. Given the physiological stress of high altitudes, excellent health and top physical condition are prerequisites. Ensure robust cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and impeccable balance. Engage in regular aerobic exercises such as fitness classes, power walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, and cross-country skiing at least 4-5 times a week. Gradually progress to more strenuous levels, incorporating hiking or running into your regimen. Prior experience with altitude exercises is advisable.

High Altitude Awareness

If you've hiked at 10,000 feet, trekking at higher altitudes will feel like a natural extension. Pace yourself, rest strategically, and anticipate mild symptoms like restlessness, headaches, and possible sleep disturbances. However, if previous altitude experiences included nausea or discomfort, trekking in Bhutan might not be suitable. Our treks optimize altitude conditioning early on, but acclimatization varies. Trip leaders reserve the right to descend any member displaying signs of acute mountain sickness for their safety.

On-Trek Facilities

During camping, we prioritize your comfort. A morning and afternoon bowl of hot water is provided, allowing for a refreshing sponge bath in your tent. Toilet tents are available, and our dining tent offers snacks and hot beverages upon settling in at camp. Lunches are enjoyed on the trail, with our staff providing warm, nourishing meals. Hygienically prepared by experienced camp staff, the food is plentiful. Each evening, we provide boiled water to refill your bottles.
